The Outreach Rats

VTPS Outreach Rats

Who Are They?

The Outreach Rats are personal pet rats owned by a VTPS staff member.

We attend local events, or pet expos to help people learn about rats in a positive environment.

Our Mission

Reducing the Stigma... One Tail at a Time

We're not here to convince everyone to own rats- or even like them!

We just want people to see that rats are smart, sweet, and deserve the same kindness as any other pet. And that hopefully people will see them in a different light

Ask The Rats- Ratty FAQ

Please reach out to our humans at info@vettechpetservices.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question or would like to chat about the rats.

We admit we're a bit biased, but YES!

Think of us a bit like small dogs. We're also super smart and can learn tricks, recognize our names and solve puzzles

Admittedly, this is the tough part of small animal ownership. We live an average of 2-3 years.

While that is such a short time in human years, to us rats it's a lifetime of love and care

Yes. Us rats prefer to live with other rats (same gender groups). As all rats have different personalities, sometimes we don't get along with our would be friends. Solo rats would do best with more frequent human interaction

No more than most other pets ;)

We're actually pretty clean animals and spend lots of time grooming. We can also be trained to use litter boxes

Any animal CAN bite. We'd much rather run away, squeak or squirm. Rats are much less likely to bite than some other species.

Yes. Like any other pets, rats can get sick, get tumours etc. Proper Vet Care is essential.
